How the Kerrville Floods Have Impacted Our Community
Over the past week, our beloved Kerrville and Hill Country area faced one of the most devastating floods in our history. Torrential rains pushed the Guadalupe River to rise over 26 feet in under an hour, sweeping through homes, camps, roads, and forever changing lives.
A Community Changed Forever
We’ve lost neighbors, friends, and local landmarks. Families are grieving loved ones, including children and elders who were taken far too soon. Beloved places like Camp Mystic became sites of heartbreak. Across Ingram, Hunt, and Kerrville, homes were washed away, leaving many without shelter or belongings.
The Strength of Our Neighbors
But even in the face of unimaginable tragedy, our community spirit is shining. Local volunteers have turned out in droves — searching for the missing, cooking meals, delivering supplies, and offering comfort wherever it’s needed. Churches and schools opened their doors, neighbors helped neighbors salvage keepsakes, and small businesses have rallied with donations. One of our Lake Travis small business owners, House of Shan has raised over $79,000 in a matter of days from her "hearts for hill country" hats. So many businesses offering 100% of their proceeds on dedicated days to donate. It's incredible to see the power of our community rally. There is so much loss, yet so much hope, open hearts and neighbors coming together.
What Comes Next
It’s going to be a long road to heal and rebuild. Our leaders are already talking about how to make our towns safer with better flood alerts and stronger infrastructure. In the meantime, we can keep doing what we do best: looking out for one another. Texans are resilient, we will rebuild, let us not forget to love on one another.
